Central Mongolia is one of the best regions for first-time visitors who want to experience the country’s history, nomadic culture, open steppe, sand dunes, waterfalls, hot springs, and ancient monasteries in one journey.
This region is often called the heart of Mongolia. It combines some of the country’s most important historical sites with beautiful natural landscapes and authentic countryside experiences, making it ideal for private tours, family travel, cultural journeys, and soft adventure.

Kharkhorin & Erdene Zuu Monastery
Kharkhorin, also known as Karakorum, was once the capital of the Mongol Empire and remains one of Mongolia’s most important historical destinations. Today, it is a peaceful town, but its surroundings still carry the memory of the empire, ancient trade routes, and centuries of spiritual tradition.
Erdene Zuu Monastery is the main highlight of Kharkhorin. Surrounded by white walls and rows of stupas, it is one of the oldest and most significant Buddhist monasteries in Mongolia. A visit here gives travellers a deeper understanding of Mongolian history, Buddhism, architecture, and the cultural legacy of the Orkhon Valley.

Orkhon Valley
The Orkhon Valley is one of Mongolia’s most important cultural landscapes and a UNESCO World Heritage area. Wide grasslands, river valleys, ancient remains, nomadic families, and historic sites make this region one of the richest travel experiences in the country.
A major highlight is Ulaan Tsutgalan Waterfall, also known as Orkhon Waterfall, where the river drops over dark volcanic rock into a scenic canyon. The valley is also excellent for horse riding, visiting local families, photography, camping, and experiencing the rhythm of rural Mongolian life.
